Luke Evans is showing a very different side of himself in The Rocky Horror Show. The actor plays Dr Frank-N-Furter on Broadway. The role puts Evans on stage in fishnets, heels, corsets, harnesses, thongs and jockstraps. It is far from his usual tough-guy image.
Evans told Attitude that the experience seriously improved his body confidence. Performing almost naked before huge crowds made him more comfortable with his body. Fans know Evans for masculine roles in Beauty and the Beast and Fast & Furious 6. Rocky Horror gives them something completely different.
The gay actor said playing Frank-N-Furter also had personal meaning. He could drop the traditional masculine image and push himself outside his comfort zone. That means plenty of skin and seriously sexy outfits on stage. Evans confidently shows his bare body while embracing the provocative character.
The role was originally made famous by Tim Curry. Evans later revealed how important Curry’s performance had been during his own Broadway journey.
After getting nearly naked on Broadway, Evans returns to television next. He will star as political journalist Martin Gilmour in ITV’s The Party.
